Hi, I have a question about the “New User” event. Essentially, I would expect this event only get fired/recorded once for each unique user?

However, I am seeing there are users who performed/recorded the “New User” event more than once. This does not seem to make sense for me.

I did some researches on the documentation/discussion on “New users”  and I think the most relevant discussion would be the link below but I did not find it very helpful, some additional help would be nice. Thanks!

I may have an answer for my question now,
the frequency of “New User” refers to the number of events fired by a New User within the selected time interval.

EG performed “New User” 2 times in the last 7 days sort of means, this user fired the very first beginning event on our website within the last 7 days and in total this user fired 2 events.

Lets say  date range is still within last 7 days and I have unique “New User” =2000, event totals “New User” = 4000.

This is saying, within the last 7 days, I have 2000 New users and on average each of the new users fired 2 events.

Is this the correct interpretation? Thanks!

Hi Jack,

Thank you for writing in! My name is Audrey, and I am your Technical Support Agent here to help you.

You're correct in your understanding that the 'New User' event is triggered when a user logs an event for the first time in Amplitude. However, it's important to note that the 'New User' event considers all events that were performed by the New User during the interval (day/week/month) that they are new, starting from their first logged event.

For example, if a user logs their first event at 14:00 on Jan 1st, and then triggers another event at 21:00 on the same day, both of these events would be considered 'New User' events. This is because they both occurred within the user's first calendar day of being tracked in Amplitude.

I hope this helps clarify things! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Best,
Audrey
