Hi,

I’m trying to create a custom event to identify users that complete the below path but can see that the custom events work with OR whereas I would like to use AND.

Event X → Event X (users browsing page 1 fires event x then clicking into page 2 which fires the same event x)

Is there a way to do this - either using custom events or another workaround?

Thanks
J

Hi @josh99

Sequential events aren’t supported in a custom event definition since they work on a OR basis only.

If you want to get this analysis done on a user level, then cohorts will be helpful. You can use the “then” clause to build such cohorts.

Hope this helps.

Hi @josh99. Pretty sure this is something that can’t be done in a custom event, there’s currently no option to apply a “followed by” condition. But do suggest it here: https://community.amplitude.com/ideas.

Current workaround is that you could use a cohort...which obviously isn’t the same as having an event/ metric, but should give you something. If you create a funnel of Event X (filtered for Page 1) » Event X (filtered for Page 2), you can click on “Create Cohort” from the area that completed step 2 which would then contain those users the did step 2 at some point after step 1 (or immediately after depending on your funnel config).
