Effectively renaming events

Hey there,

We introduced a new naming convention and now have some legacy events we need to rename. In general, we see two options:

(1) Adding renamed events in code

(2) Renaming existent events in the UI

As for Option 2, it seems the renaming of events doesn`t have the effect we aspire, i.e. that one can browse the event by the new name when creating reports, etc.

Is there an option to change the event name in such a way that the new name is displayed in the UI? Same question for related properties.

P.S. If you have other arguments on why to pursue Option 1 or Option 2, please share :)

If you have the right plan, I’d recommend you both rename the events in your code, and then merge your old and new events in Amplitude. The only downside of merging is that old charts need updating to the new name.

If you can’t merge, you could still rename and then create a custom event that covers both (looks like you already made that custom event based on your screenshot).

Both of those methods will result with the new naming being shown in the UI.
