We pipe our event data straight into amplitude (i know, not best practice). We had a bug that occurred which is duplicating user data (counting users multiple times as multiple amplitude IDs have been assigned to the same user). I am curious if there is anyway we can retroactively fix this within Amplitude?

Hey @RosieC.

Can you elaborate on the “multiple times as multiple amplitude IDs “?

If that user is accessing your app anonymously, then Amplitude will assign different Amplitude IDs each time to that user ( assuming you aren’t setting any user id for anonymous usage ). Once the user logs in, then their identity will get resolved by merging all their amplitude IDs under one profile.

If your issue is more on the creation of different user ids for the same user, then I don’t think that can be retroactively fixed since the ingested data is immutable.

Hope this helps.
