Hi all, I work at a social video platform similar to Youtube, and i was wondering how to create a filter for “New Users” that have recently signed up. Can anyone help guide me on how to create this?

Hi Matthew,
Thanks for your email and happy to help!
Assuming you are referring to how to create a filter/segment on charts for 'New Users', then you can either use an event that your org has instrumented that signifies a new user sign-up or use Amplitude's default options of new users.
For the first option, head to the User Segment section and click on the option 'has performed event'. Then choose the event that represents new users and that user segment will represent users who did that New User event during the date range you selected in the filter.
For the second option, this will depend on what chart you are planning to create a filter as the Amplitude default option for New User will appear in different ways. For example, if you are using Event Segmentation chart, there is a dropdown on the 'Any' word within the Segment by Any Users section. Click on that dropdown and choose 'New' to filter by New users. I recommend taking a look at our docs for the chart you are specifically looking for to see how you can create a New User filter on that chart.
If you're referring to define a new cohort, click Create New > Cohort and set the parameters by selecting the event that signifies a new user sign-up or use the option of 'had been new'. Add conditions to your cohort definition, such as event count or specific properties that identify new users. Then, apply a filter to your user segment on charts by clicking + Filter by under your user segment, selecting the user property or behavioral cohort, and setting the appropriate operator and value to include new users in your segment.
Hope this helps!
Best,
Belinda
