Learn how Statsig used the Integration Portal to build an Event Streaming destination benefiting our mutual customers.

Overview

Statsig is a modern feature-management and product experimentation platform that helps you to ship faster by providing actionable causal analysis, meaningful data insights, and automatically running 10x more experiments.

Customers use like, Ancestry, Headspace and Notion use Statsig to measure the impact of feature rollouts or experiments on key products metrics.

Challenge

Typically, most customers have minimal issues instrumenting specific metrics and events in Amplitude but can’t share this data with Statsig without jumping through hoops. This can involve installing a 3rd party Customer Data Platform (CDP) to forward the events from Amplitude to Statsig or exporting data from Amplitude into files and re-importing them into Statsig.

These workaround solutions are fragile and create a higher chance of failure requiring ongoing maintenance. Additionally, file-based solutions also suffered from significant latencies, preventing near real-time alerting when a feature rollout breaks core experiences.

Often, this would take a customer a week in elapsed time to implement. Many customers give up on reusing their existing data in Amplitude.

How Statsig leveraged the Integration Portal

However, the good news is that earlier this year; Amplitude announced our new Integration portal to expand the tooling necessary for our growing ecosystem of technology partners to build, modify and maintain their Amplitude integration.

Today, we officially have Event Streaming support for our Integration Portal, enabling Partners like Statsig to build their native event streaming destination independently.

Using the Integration Portal, Statsig was able to::

  1. Self-define and add all the necessary contextual information for their integration tile in the Amplitude app. This includes

    1. Adding a brief overview of your integration.

    2. Adding a display name for your integration tile in Amplitude.

    3. Choosing an integration category (e.g.Messaging, Attribution, Ad Network).

    4. Uploading their company logo for their integration tile.

  2. Leverage the flexible Events Body Editor to customize and construct the payload forwarded from Amplitude

  3. Preview and test the payloads to verify events are sent successfully before submitting it for review in a self-serve way.

By creating this Event Streaming destination, Statsig decreased time to value for customers enabling them to forward events from Amplitude in a matter of minutes. More information about this integration is available here.
