A noob question but, how would I see the absolute number of unique daily user (not events),
Do i need to group by user ID?

Hey
You just need to use the Uniques metric in your event segmentation chart for Any Active Event / Any Event as per your use case to get your unique daily users. Here’s a demo chart - https://analytics.amplitude.com/demo/chart/new/y52mxbf
A single day’s count on this chart will give you the unique number of users who performed Any Active Event in your product on that given day.
