Hello!

We are trying to set up an experiment for new users coming to our site. For this experiment experience to show, you have to create a new account on our site.

We are trying to push this experiment out into a live environment, but restrict it so that only our dev team can see the experience. But that said, the ability to add testers only via device or User ID seems to imply that this only works with registered / pre-existing users.

Does the Testers functionality only work for users that already have a registered account with us? Or can we set this up in a way where Amplitude Experiments knows its my team even without having created an account?

Hi Chang,

The Testers functionality in Amplitude Experiments allows you to add testers by `User ID` or `Device ID`, or using a cohort. These testers are assigned a variant, which Amplitude ensures they see each time they're exposed.

However, it's important to note that the `User ID` or `Device ID` needs to be known beforehand to add them as testers. This means that for your use case, where you want your dev team to see the experience without having created an account, it might be a bit challenging as the `User ID` or `Device ID` would typically be generated upon account creation or device recognition.

One possible workaround could be to have your dev team create accounts or use specific devices, and then add those `User ID` or `Device ID` to the testers. This way, Amplitude Experiments will know it's your team and show them the specific variant you want them to test.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Best,
Yosimy
