Why is my user count not lining up using the “distinct day” feature and the “in each” feature?
Our Technical Support team gets requests frequently to troubleshoot discrepancies between different chart setups. In a ticket that we received, a customer had set up a behavioural cohort using the ‘distinct day’ feature:
And compared to an in-line cohort set up using the “in each” feature over the same time period:
The customer expected the results to match, but the user count was different.
After some clarification with the engineering team, the support specialist handling the ticket came to learn that the “distinct day” feature has a stricter definition than the “in each” feature.
A user has to meet the criteria each week (both Week 1 and Week 2) to be included in the “distinct day” cohort, whereas in an event segmentation chart with the in-line cohort, a user only needs to have performed the event in either in Week 1 or in Week 2 to be counted.
