Hello Amplitude community

I would like to ask if there’s a way to achieve the following:

  • Funnel analysis with 10+ events
  • In this funnel, users may have different events in the funnel triggered as their first step (not necessarily the first event of the funnel, which I understand it usually needs to be triggered for an user to be considered part of the funnel)
  • The analysis is under “in any order”
  • The specific use case is for a funnel that can start with users loading the Home Page (first event) but they might also be redirected from an external website directly to events 2, 3 or 4 of the funnel, and I still would like to consider them as part of the funnel. In this case, it would be possible that there are more users triggering event 2, 3 or 4 than event 1.

Not sure if this is something feasible. Segmentation analysis would work for my case as a way to not have the events 2, 3, 4 depending on 1, but this type of analysis only allows up to 10 events.

Any thoughts on how I can do it?

Thank you

Hi Lucas,

In a Funnel Analysis chart, the order of events is crucial. The first event in the funnel is considered the entry point for users. If a user does not trigger this first event, they are not considered part of the funnel. This holds true even if the funnel is set to 'Any Order'. (docs)

However, there is a workaround for your use case. You can set the first event in your funnel to 'Any Event'. This means that any event triggered by a user will be considered as the entry point to the funnel. This way, users who are redirected from an external website directly to events 2, 3, or 4 of the funnel will still be considered part of the funnel (docs).

As for the limitation of 10 events in a Segmentation Analysis, you might consider creating multiple Segmentation Analysis charts, each comparing up to 10 events, and then view these charts together on a dashboard for a broader comparison.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Jarren

Hi Jarren @jarren.patao

Thanks for your prompt answer.

However, your proposed solution of adding a first “Any Event” event wouldn’t solve the issue that some users might skip step 2 or 3 and go directly to 4 for example. In the sense that they wouldn’t be accounted as fully converted even if they go until the last step of the funnel because they didn’t trigger all events, correct?

Thanks

Hi Lucas,

You're correct. In an 'Any Order' funnel, users must complete all the steps listed to be considered as converted, even if the order in which they complete these steps doesn't matter. If a user skips any step, they will not be counted as fully converted, even if they reach the last step of the funnel.

If you want to track users who may skip certain steps, you might consider creating separate funnels for each possible path a user might take. For example, you could have one funnel for users who go from step 1 to step 4, skipping steps 2 and 3, and another funnel for users who go from step 1 to step 2 to step 4, skipping step 3.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Best,
Jarren
