Data not aligning as I would expect


I’m trying to analyze how many users from my company’s google ads campaigns renew subscriptions on the website. We rely on two different methods to track users from google ads, their initial_utm_source from Amplitude and our own session_utm_source cookie. The session_utm_source is an event property that we include when tracking events. 

In segmentation charts, typically we filter by the session_utm_source property, however I’ve recently noticed an issue where not all renewal events have this property or the right value. As a backup, we can use the initial_utm_source prop. I combine two renewal events inline, filtering for session_utm_source in one and initial_utm_source in the other.

My understanding is that this would find all unique users with either prop equal to google. Is this correct?

Second, I wanted to check if the total number of renewals is right. I added three renewal events to my chart which filters for users who just have the session_utm_source, just the initial_utm_source, and a combination of both. The total from those three is larger than the inline event combination. I’d expect that this is the same. Am I missing something or should these line up?
