Unique Users Over Time

I’m new to Amplitude and trying to understand how the system treats unique users overtime within a segment chart.

For example, if I have an event I’m tracking where I look at unique users openedTool over the last six months, does a user that activates the event in month one also get counted in month two, three, etc? Or is it unique users activating that event for the first time within the six month period?

Hey @aiden mulreadyZI

The Unique Users metric refers to a distinct individual to whom events are attributed during the time period. Now the interpretation varies if the time period you are visualizing is via a bar chart view vs a line chart view of an event seg chart.

e.g. for this demo chart (line chart) - https://analytics.amplitude.com/demo/chart/new/f7z9i8a
For the Money Transfer Completed event, 3,868 unique users performed it in Oct ‘22, 3,388 unique users performed it in Nov ‘22 and 4,377 unique users did it in Dec ‘22.

Now the same users could have performed that event in all 3 months and they would be included in the uniques in each of those months.

If you want to know how many unique users performed the event in the overall time frame, then a bar chart view will dedupe those unique users over the time frame and count them only once if they have completed money transfer ( once or multiple times ). As seen in this bar chart view - https://analytics.amplitude.com/demo/chart/new/ib7x49j

Let me know if I have interpreted your use case correctly. Hope this helps.
