A way to group values of a property together into a "bucket" of values?

Hi everyone! New to Amplitude here, so would really appreciate advice – and I’m looking forward to giving back to the community as I get more experienced :)

Is there a way to group values for a user or event property into a “bucket” that would be a singular value, either for that same property or for a new, different one?

E.g. Let’s say Device type as a user property has a lot of values, like iPhone 12, iPhone 13, Samsung Galaxy Pro, Android whatever (I don’t know the Android models haha). Can I bucket all these smartphone values into a new value called “Mobile”? Whether that is for the Device type user property, or a different separate one I could create? (Also, if this can be done, can it be done for event properties too?)

If this can be done, could you please share the steps to doing it? :) Thanks so much!

Hi @Helena, are you on Enterprise tier? If so, Derived Properties will work nicely for you…

Hi @dangrainger! We’re on the Growth Plan, not the Enterprise Plan.

Is there an option in this case? Thanks so much

Not within the tool as far as I’m aware, though if there is I’m sure someone on here will chime in! If there isn’t, an alternative is that you could instrument this in whatever mechanic/ setup method you use prior to the data being sent into Amplitude.
