User Retention on day 1 only

I’m trying to create a chart that lets me analyse how many users return on the first day after their first use. Ideally I could see the change of that one number over time.

Essentially that would be like the second column of a retention chart. Whatever I try I don’t get the same result though. What would be the best way to achieve this?

Hey @konradm

You can try something like this demo chart - https://analytics.amplitude.com/demo/chart/new/rp7wn3k

I’m charting out the new user N day retention using the Change over time metric and only selecting the Day 1 from the breakdown table. This will show you the change of Day 1 retention over time.

Hope this helps.

@konradm I want to echo @Saish Redkar’s suggestion of using the Change Over Time metric on the Retention chart. See this Help Center doc for more info: https://help.amplitude.com/hc/en-us/articles/360050153551#retention-vs-change-over-time

Thank you @Saish Redkar and @belinda.chiu. That sounds reasonable. However this seems to be inconsistent with the regular retention chart https://analytics.amplitude.com/demo/chart/new/6ady594 or am I reading this wrong? Shouldn’t day 1 be consistent with the change-over-time chart?

Hi @konradm ! I noticed the project you used is not the same as the one that Saish used. I believe you meant to use https://analytics.amplitude.com/demo/chart/new/j09qhvv? The Day 1 percentages should now match up accordingly.
