What causes my unbounded retention to go up over time?

Hey there, I’m currently analysing retention between a few segments of my paying users.  When looking at unbounded retention on a weekly scale, the numbers actually go UP over time. I’m struggling to come up with why this would be the case - maybe something just isn’t clicking in my brain. Can anyone help explain why the retention bumps up?

How is week 0 in retention calculated for new user event?

What do the numerator 199 and denominator 274 mean? How is week 2 to be interpreted? Why don’t these numbers add up?

Events attribution to install date?

Hi everyone!Can tell me please how is data displayed on dashboards? i mean type of events: Lifetime or Flow? (Are they attributed to the date of the event or the date of the installation?)For example, we are looking at a purchase on May 15th that was made by a user who installed the app on April 10th.In Amplitude dashboard, will the purchase be shown on May 15 (at the time of the purchase) or April 10 (at the time of the user's arrival)?+

Report i showing excluded events

I’ve created a Retention report which showed me that several months of users in the past were 100% retained.I found this fishy this sus, so I created a duplicate of this report and changed the time period to Between July 1, 2020 and July 31, 2020 (one of the cohorts that the retention report claimed were 100% retained), so I could see what actions these folks were taking.My initial report was setup Starting Event New user and Return Event equals any event where Event Name does not contain sendgrid.My second report matched the first exactly except i narrowed my time period to only July 2020.I then drilled down on the second report to look at the userpath and see that the users started a session, then the only return events are Sendgrid activities. What am I missing? Why is the report showing Sendgrid activities when I’ve specifically excluded them?

Tracking usage in Product Demo?

Hey everybody,I’m building a demo account for my mobile App. The idea is somewhat similar to the Amplitude Product Demo.All new users will have to see the demo before being able to sign up. On the backend side, everybody is effectively logging into the same Demo Account. Our objective is to increase conversion from App install to sign up.I’d like to track usage of the demo mode to understand if users check specific features/sections of the App and how long they browse the demo. I’m insure about the best way to do that while avoiding noise:My current idea: Add a demo mode attribute to all events and filter them afterwards → not ideal because I’ll have to filter them on all charts forever. Create a Launched Product Demo & Exit Product Demo event, and use timestamps to calculate duration → solves the session question, but not the usage.I’d love to hear your thoughts on the topic!Thanks,​​​​​​​Vill

Is it possible to calculate duration between two events?

Hello,We are trying to determine how long a user stays on a video, we have a “play video” event, is it possible to calculate a duration like this:duration = (time of the next event) - (time of play video event)For example if a user launches a video at 12:30 PM then any other event has been fired at 12:44 for the whole day, then we’d like to show 14 minutes watch time for that day in a chart.Thank you.

Creating custom events with order

I found this article in the FAQ: https://help.amplitude.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041885332-FAQ-In-the-Events-Module-how-can-I-group-two-or-more-events-together-as-a-single-step-But I can’t seem to be able to combine events, and the only things that custom events allow me to do is:“When ANY of the events below are performed, it will count as user activity for this custom event.” which isn’t that useful. Any thoughts on why this options isn’t available to me?I can create custom events, but not as described there.Thanks in advance! Note: Subforum could’ve been Data Management too.

Analysing unordered "Getting Started" steps

This question is about methodology - rather than searching for a specific feature. I’m analysing the “getting started” steps of an app, and those steps can be done in any order. I want to look at progression through the steps. I know the funnel chart has “any order” but that on its own is not what I’m looking for. I want to understand progression and different sequences.I have some ideas but they are fairly complex so I would love to hear how others usually tackle this?

Can I a custom event with URL starting with?

Hello there, I am trying to track visits to my home page “mydomain.io” that come form a paid campaign. The issue I am having is all URL have a different gclid (https://mydomain.io/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwwJuVBhCAARIsAOPwGASRKmULeCF9fYKDzIwJhk4ECnax3xpGo_sHsXl7tiyV2HCrN-qQgXEaAn6REALw_wcB -→ for instance), as all are different Amplitude considers it as new page for every gclid. Is there anyway I can unify or create a custom event with page starts with https://mydomain.io/ so it can include all generated gclid?Thanks

[Building a funnel chart] Event count is 0

Hey there, have a pretty newbie question I guess but I fail to find an answer for it on my own:So I’m trying to visualise a simple funnel, with 2 steps:1. Page Created;2. Page Published.The second step represents how many unique pages were published by our users. Now, regardless of the settings like: “completed within” or any other options that I can modify, like “Unique users” or “Totals”, it always shows me 0 in the amount of the second step.If I remove the first step and step 2 becomes step 1 - I see thousands of it in volume. How should I approach this issue?

Retention Analysis - Changing total number of users every day

In my retention chart, I am noticing that my denominator is changing every day in the calculation of Retention %. My understanding was - Day 0 it shows that there are 9885 users, and of them 18.3% came back on Day 1 - which means 1808 usersBut if you look at the numbers on the tooltip, it says 1733 users have come back out of 9482. Where have the rest of the 403 (9885-9482) users gone?Could someone please help me make sense of this?

Controlling a funnel by a step in the middle

Let’s say I have a funnel with 3 steps in this order (properties on indented lines):Do you have a vehicle? What vehicle types do you like? Type: [sports, suv, compact, motorcycles] What features do you like Features: [ac, steering, electric] If a user only selects motorcycles in step 2, they will not be shown step 3.I’d love to show a funnel that shows conversion through all three stages of the form, but I want to filter by users who selected sports, suv, or compact in step 2.I understand this means step 1 to step 2 will have zero drop-off.I want to measure the car lovers for finishing the form, so I don’t want to add a filter to step 2, “where Type contains sports, suv, compact”, because that will make our conversion look terrible if half of the folks who start the form only like motorcycles.I can start my funnel on step 2, but I want to emphasize that there are 3 events in the funnel, not 2.Question: How do I filter step 1 by their future choice in step 2?

Change the x-axis on line chart to an event property

Is it possible to change the x-axis on a line chart to an event property?Our use case is tracking an event property “value” that occurs on a “date” which is another event property. The metric corresponds to the “date” property, not to the time at which the event was created/received so we need the x-axis to be the “date” instead of the event timestamp. Our events look like this:[{ "date": "2021-10-19", "value": "50" },{ "date": "2021-10-20", "value": "40" },{ "date": "2021-10-21", "value": "30" },{ "date": "2021-10-22", "value": "60" }]and we want to plot the `value` on the y-axis versus the `date` on the x-axis. These events may all be sent to Amplitude at the same time which means that the default line chart will put them all at the same timestamp.Here’s a graph that shows what happens when we try to plot the data (which all arrived on 2021-10-24).

Calculate the retention from D0

I really need help because I'm starting to pull my hair out on this supposedly "simple" subject. I would like to be able to analyze the retention at D1, D3, D7 and D30. For now, I just want to know which users are coming back after creating an account. To do this, I have set up a custom event called "Successful sign up" which, as the name suggests, is triggered when the user creates an account. (I can't leave the default "New user" event because my application is made so that you have to create an account to be considered as a user. It is possible to open the app and see the content without having an account. Therefore, if I leave it as is, I end up with a very low retention)For the return event, I left the amplitude one, namely "Any active event". In fact:- in D0 I have 100% with 115 users.- in D1 I have 51% with 47 users.- in D2 I have 43,3% with 29 users- in D3 I have 31,9% with 15 users- in D4 I have 24% with 6 users...- in D5 I have 28,6% with 4 users ....As you can see, all the n

My assumption is that it takes several days before somebody converts on my website, how can I get the insight how many sessions I need for this? And how long does this take as in total days before they convert?

Average time between two events for a user

Hello to allI can't figure out the average time between two events for a user.I tried to use a Funnel Chart by putting my two events and then Time to convert but I am forced to put a window of time less than 90 days. The users, in my case, can take longer.Thanks in advance for your help

What event do you use to track funnels for new users? 🤔

New to the community here  👋   and looking forward to hear your thoughts. I’m curious what everyone does to track an activation funnel for new users 🤔 Do you create a funnel chart from Account Creation to the required step (let’s say item purchase) and keep the “completed within” to 90 days (max value I can use)? Or do you divide uniques(purchase) / uniques(account creation) to account for those who converted after more than 90 days? Or do you use another funnel like app open → purchase and have a filter of user performed purchases  = 0 times until the start time of your chart? What if the funnel is different for different cohorts (some users need to take additional steps, let’s say email verification). Do you set custom properties for those users to include them on the relevant funnel analysis? And for non-registered users yet (via device ID), what funnels do you recommend tracking for?

How can I track events per subscribed member

We fire an “attendance” event each time a member attends one of our sessions. We’d like to see the number of attendance events divided by the total number of subscribed members over time, so that we have a view of attendance per member. How can we achieve this?I’ve set up a cohort in amplitude that tracks all our subscribed members. I’m not able to figure out how I can use the cohort size in a chart to track the attendances per member, though. Guidance on this would be much appreciated, thanks in advance.

How to display chart in "Bar chart" for each month, not the sum of all months?

Good afternoon, dear Support service!I need to display a chart that should display 2 events A and B for the last 17 months. I would like to display the chart like this https://i.imgur.com/uOXb1ue.png, but when I select "Bar chart", the values are sum up for all 17 months and only 2 bars are displayed (https://i. imgur.com/B5JxTx9.png) and not (17+17=34) as it should be. How to make a calculation between events and display the result on a "Bar chart" for each month within several months?

Good afternoon, dear Support service!I have a chart that displays 2 events A and B for the last 17 months. I need to do pre-calculations before rendering the chart. It is necessary to subtract event B from event A and display the result on the chart as event A and display event B next to it. But when I do any calculations through the Formula input, this option for rendering the chart is not available to me. How can I achieve the desired result?

Bucketing users by properties for funnel analysis / How do User Filters work

Hi everyone, I’m new here and this might be a well known answer – I tried searching but wasn’t able to find one. My high level goal is to set some user Amplitude properties that I can later on use to bucket users into categories and use that for funnel analysis. The problem is at user signup I don’t have the values for those properties yet (for example the user hasn’t shared their location yet) I wanted to understand first what those two user filtering properties mean: Is the following correct for the following image: Any Events that are performed by any user who at the current time (not the time of the event) their User Property Country = “United States” (i.e. a user who had an empty Country at the time of the event but their current User Property Country = “United States” will be included) Filter applied to event #1  Is the following correct for the following image: Any Events that are performed by any user who at the current time (not the time of the event) their User Property Count
