Hello

I am trying to create a funnel chart from event A to event B (eg: users who played a song and then bought the product). I want to exclude users who may have purchased in the past and are in license expired state before the first step in this funnel, so that only new users conversion is displayed.

How do I go about this?

I wish to use the ‘New User’ event in step A but that is not available for use in funnels.

Hello Kavitha,

Jacenda from Amplitude Support here. I'm happy to assist you today!

I see you're looking to create a funnel between Event A (played a song) and Event B (bought the product) while excluding users who may have purchased in the past and are in a license-expired state before the first step.

To do this, you can use cohorts or user segments to filter out users who have purchased in the past and are in the license-expired state before the start of the date range.

Here are some examples from the Amplitude demo where I've set up a user segment to capture these users:

- Segment of new users: https://app.amplitude.com/analytics/demo/chart/new/spdoekie
- Segment of users who have not purchased before the start of the date range: https://app.amplitude.com/analytics/demo/chart/new/6vzezc07

Also, here are links to our help center articles about defining cohorts and user segments.

I hope this helps! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Warm regards,

Jacenda

Thank you @Jacenda Davis for sharing this. Much appreciated.

I have a further question. My funnel chart monitors conversions starting from a particular date till today (say March 5th for example). In this case, how do I specify the cohort to exclude users who purchased before March 5th and not having to reset x in the offset by x days on a regular basis.

Hello Kavitha,

The best alternative for the use case you've described is to use a date range with the 'between' operator instead of the 'last X days offset by'.

Here is an example chart: https://app.amplitude.com/analytics/demo/chart/new/tdhea1qk

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions.

Best,

Jacenda
