Why does absolute volume of any value in group by are significantly lower than filtering it

I am doing group by in a funnel on the 2nd step, the value of group by property values are so much lower than if I filter by any one value individually.

example :

Step 1 - breaking down funnel step 2 by event.name

Step 2 - looking at the values, view-timeline has 50k count

Step 3 - using view-timeline as a funnel step - count 240k

The reason for this discrepancy is that when you use the Group By option in a specific step, Amplitude will handle users who have completed the funnel multiple times differently. With Group By, we only count the _**first**_ occurrence of the funnel completion and will bucket that user according to what event property value they had during that event.

Let's say for example you have User A who first completed the funnel with Event Name set to open-blank-canvas, or not set at all. Then, they completed it again, this time with Event Name = view-timeline. With Group By, only users who _**first**_ completed the funnel as Event Name = view-timeline will be counted. In our example, User A would not be counted. With Filter By, users are counted as long as they had Event Name = view-timeline during _**any**_ of their funnel completions, so User A would be counted.
