How do I stop session replay from loading?

Session replay seems to be causing a lower pagespeed score and I'd like not to load it at all.

I have Amplitude code in the head of my webflow sites (with defer) but I don't seem to have found the right way to get session replay not to load.

I'm using the free version now, if that matters.

Hey @jsibley, sorry to hear this. To avoid PageSpeed impact, you need to make sure Session Replay is not being loaded on the page at all. Session Replay isn’t enabled by default—it only loads if you’ve explicitly added the Session Replay plugin/SDK to your site. If your Webflow <head> includes a Session Replay script (often something like plugin-session-replay-browser-*.js.gz), the browser will still download it even if you set sampling to 0.

Here are some next steps depending which direction you want to go with this:

Don’t load Session Replay

Check your Webflow site’s <head> code for any Session Replay plugin script tags (for example, a URL like https://cdn.amplitude.com/libs/plugin-session-replay-browser-...js.gz).
If you see that, remove it. Keep only your standard Amplitude Analytics (Browser SDK) snippet.
Note that Session Replay requires extra instrumentation beyond standard Amplitude instrumentation—so if you remove the replay plugin, it won’t load.

If you only want Replay sometimes (recommended workaround)

Instead of loading Session Replay in the <head>, load it conditionally / later (after cookie consent, after window.onload, or after a delay), and only then add the plugin.

If you can’t remove the plugin, you can at least stop collection (but not the download)

Setting sampleRate to 0 disables replay collection (no sessions recorded), but it may still download the plugin if it’s present in your HTML.
You can also disable replay collection at runtime by removing the plugin (useful if only certain pages/areas should not be recorded).
